Welcome to 'Eye' Talk!
We decided to start a podcast to leave another record of our project for the public to listen to at any time, beyond the time limitations of our Community Health Project. We hope to have it serve as another resource for folks who are interested in learning more about diabetic retinopathy, AND for those who are interested in learning more about UCR SOM's Future Physician Leaders Program.

What is diabetic retinopathy?
In this episode, Nicah and Alexa sit down and talk about the basics of diabetic retinopathy. What is it? What are the symptoms of this disease? They also discuss why they were excited to pursue this topic, and their favorite parts about the Future Physician Leaders Program. Alexa also provides listeners with some insight on how eye exams for diabetic retinopathy work!

In this episode, Nicah and William sit down and talk about some important statistics that are related to Diabetic Retinopathy. How many people in the Coachella Valley have diabetes compared to the rest of California? How many people know how to manage their diabetes? William also shares some of his personal experiences and relates it to his passion for spreading awareness about diabetic retinopathy to the community.

Episode 5
Local resources that can help prevent and manage diabetic retinopathy
In this episode, Nicah and Cindy sit down and share important local resources the group found throughout our research for our community health project. Each resource shared offers assistance with diabetes management, which in turn helps to prevent the onset or worsening of diabetic retinopathy because (and you'll keep hearing us say it again!) prevention is KEY!

Reflecting on our community health project
In our final episode of 'Eye' Talk, Nicah and Dulce sit down and reflect on their experiences being a part of the 2021 Future Physician Leaders Cohort, and the growth they've made as a team, person, and (hopefully!) future physician.
